The everyday good memories were lost (some now recovered) while the memories of abuse were all too vivid and accessible.
Trying to survive, heal, and move on from those years has been a lifelong journey.
Art has always been a comfort to me. Now I'm happy to be finding it a great vehicle for healing, though I usually don't make such ugly, heavy art.
Although I'm trying so hard not to speak for anyone else, I can safely say at least some others who were associated with Hawthorn School still struggle with these memories, too.
